THE STAFF

Frank Ward, Editor and Publisher: A lifelong Philadelphia sports fanatic, Frank Ward has endured a lifetime of heartache in South Philadelphia. He has yet to watch Joe Carter’s ball clear the fence in 1993, and still sees Robert Horry draining threes in 2001. When driving down Broad Street, he still sees Joe Jurivicius running away from Levon Kirkland. Ward also often awakes from nightmares of Super Bowl XXXIX yelling, “Call timeout, Andy! Call a timeout!!!”

To put it simply, the former sports editor and public relations director, and current public high school English teacher has not had much to cheer about in his years on Earth. Negadelphia is his hometown. “Expect the worst and hope for the bad and ugly,” says Ward. Not even a Phillies World Series championship can cure his negative outlook. When Brad Lidge enters a game, Ward is often seen reaching for his Curt Schilling towel to drape over his face while repeating the first words he ever uttered … “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

Mark Madden, Associate Editor: Mark is a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan who bleeds Eagles green. He focuses on Eagles sports news for The Daily Philadelphian.

Gary Patrone, Staff Writer: Gary grew up blocks from Veterans Stadium in South Philadelphia and listened to the Phillies crowds from his front porch stoop. With years of experience following the Phils, he is our World Champion guru.

Fred Waters, Staff Writer: Fred spent much of his childhood on the blacktop surfaces of Philly area playgrounds trying to put a ball through a hoop. He wasn’t very successful, so instead of playing in the NBA, he is covering the Sixers for us.
